Generally, headlighting has low and high beams. The former lights the way during normal, everyday driving, while the latter shines wider, illuminating both the road and your surroundings in extreme darkness when there's no oncoming traffic. Bulb Types

Halogen headlights are commonest, especially in small cars, while Xenon headlights, you usually find in sports cars with narrower housings. LED headlights, you can find in many newer Lexus vehicles; they're low-heat and more energy-efficient.

When to Replace Them

Halogen bulbs: every couple of years or so. HID bulbs: about every three years (as they weaken). LED bulbs: if their electronics fail or they burn out.
