Your Lexus vehicle's radiator helps "sink" (reduce the effects of) the heat its engine generates as it runs, helping to prevent overheats. The cooling process in total works as follows.
First, coolant (a combination of antifreeze and water) flows back and forth between an inlet and outlet through radiator hoses, with help from a water pump and pressurized by a radiator cap. As it moves, it absorbs said heat -- as much as possible. Then, a set of radiator core fins expel the heat, and finally, a cooling fan disperses it. The result: an engine that runs cooler, works better, and lasts longer.
Radiators don't last indefinitely, though. When one goes bad, it causes all sorts of problems, with the car heating and air conditioning systems, the engine, and more -- malfunctions, overheats, failures, you name it. Luckily, there are signs to let you know that's happening, namely damaged fins, unusual engine noises, sludgy coolant, and a sweet, syrupy ethylene glycol smell, which usually indicates a coolant leak. See any, and you'll need to check your vehicle's temperature gauge to see if the engine's running hot. Then, do a complete inspection, replacing your radiator or any relevant cooling system parts as necessary. Avoid the aftermarket for them, though; install the genuine article.
Why Buy an OEM Radiator vs. Aftermarket?
Lexus offers a fitment guarantee -- that the radiator you order will fit the car or SUV you drive specifically. Off-brands don't always provide the same assurances.
