What each does. Headlights work as low-beams for most driving, as high-beams for when it's extremely dark, and as hazard lights or "flashers" to warn other drivers of distress or danger nearby. DRLs and tail lighting tell drivers both where you are and how far away you are, while turn signals or "blinkers" inform of a turn or lane change and brake lights inform of slowing and stopping. Depending on the Lexus model you drive, you may have other types, like fog lighting to brighten the way better in bad weather or specialty lighting to accent exterior accessories such as license plate frames.

Bulb types. Headlamp or tail lamp, the light bulb itself will be either halogen, Xenon/high-intensity discharge (HID), or LED. The first, you'll find in most smaller Lexus vehicles. The second, you'll find in many of the brand's sports cars and performance SUVs. The third, you'll find in newer models.

When to change them. Replace halogen lights every two years or so, Xenon lights every few years, if or when they dim, and LED lights if their electronics fail or the lights themselves burn out.
